Welcome to the Marmalade Cat…

Make your way into the yellow, white and blue checked shop and into the warmth and vibrancy of smiling faces, freshly-baked scents and an array of gifts and homeware individually selected by owner Sandi Collins.

The restaurant is the perfect place for freshly prepared, flavour-filled breakfasts, lunches and morning and afternoon teas. We use locally sourced, organic and free-range produce wherever possible and our versatile menu includes vegetarian and vegan options. Our delicious food range also extends to our frozen meal brand, ‘We Are Freezing Food for You,’ available at the shop and at specific delivery locations.

On Friday nights the Marmalade Cat opens for their famous wood-fired pizzas – the ideal place, complete with a vibrant atmosphere and complimentary salad, to wind down after a long and busy week.

The Marmalade Cat also specialises in parties and business functions, and the Barn, leading off the main Restaurant, is ideal for bigger events.

Of course when you visit us you will also be introduced to the Maître D, the Marmalade Cat herself.

About Sandi

Brought up in the Transvaal,  Sandi started her married life on a beautiful bushveld farm outside Polokwane where she cultivated roses and bred Nguni cattle. When her daughters started university in the Cape, Sandi and her husband relocated to Darling, which offered everything they needed to make a new life. It was here that Sandi discovered a little coffee shop that was needing a new owner. So, in 2005 she found herself painting tiles on the cement floor of a little space on the main road of the town and wondering what to call her new venture. Prior to her farming days she had operated shops in Johannesburg, which sold beautiful crafts and handmade treasures. These shops had been called “The Marmalade Cat”. So now, with paintbrush in hand and a head full of doubts as to what she was doing, she looked up straight at a marmalade cat watching her curiously from the half open door. It had to be a sign… the Marmalade Cat began a new life in Darling.

Our staff

The staff at the Marmalade Cat have been together for years. We make a huge effort every day to give our customers a wonderful “Darling experience”. Over time we have realised that it is teamwork that makes the shop work and as a result, the shop works for us. We have fun preparing our food and love presenting it in our own Marmalade Cat style.
